For more than 70 years, the Pound Ridge Garden Club has been home to generations of horticulture and floral design enthusiasts. In addition to learning together about gardening technique and flower arranging, we collaborate on a wide range of civic projects to preserve and enhance the natural beauty and neighborly spirit of Pound Ridge.
We are always happy to welcome new members at any level of experience, whether you have extensive knowledge of horticulture and Floral design or little or no knowledge at all. The club is a place to share ideas and information, learn from our many accomplished and talented speakers, and develop your skills as a gardener and designer. |

"Invasive Exotic Trees and Shrubs and Well-Behaved Alternatives”
Speaker: Adam Wheeler
As we become more educated about the destructive effect of invasive, non-native plants on our local native species, it is important to learn the varieties we may already have in our gardens and what alternatives we should use to replace them.
Adam Wheeler, the Propagation and Plant Development manager at Broken Arrow Nursery in Hamden, Connecticut will describe problematic trees and shrubs and offer excellent choices for native alternatives.
Adam has worked for Broken Arrow since 2004 and has a degree in Urban Forestry and Landscape Horticulture. He is a past recipient of the Young Nursery Professional Award from the New England Nursery Association. He loves to share his passion for plants through photography and educational outreach and is an adjunct lecturer at Naugatuck Valley Community College and the Berkshire Botanical Garden. He also collects rare and unusual plants, loves rock climbing, and growing giant pumpkins competitively. It promises to be a fascinating presentation and the Pound Ridge Garden Club is fortunate to have him as our August speaker.

On May 29, several club members enjoyed a visit to see the garden at Rocky Hills, in Mt. Kisco. The garden which occupies 9 acres was originally started in the 1950’s by William and Henrietta Suhr and is now maintained by current owners Barbara and Rick Romeo. Click on a photo to enlarge it.
