Galanthophilia: A Good Kind of Love

Speaker: Ernest Cavallo, world renowned expert on Galanthus (Snowdrops)
It is fitting that the first meeting of the 2020 spring season will be all about snowdrops (galanthus), as they are usually the first flower that appears in our spring gardens. Our speaker, Ernest Cavallo, a verified Galanthophile, will introduce us to many of the named varieties of snowdrops that will grow in our Pound Ridge gardens. A retired NYC Judge and a passionate propagator of snowdrops, he has about 150 different varieties growing in his garden in the Hamptons. It is sure to be a fascinating presentation. After the program, a selection of snowdrops will be sold to attendees.
Born and raised in New Jersey by non gardening parents, he discovered the dirt as a young man in his twenties and has never had clean hands since. The month before he retired from a position in the NY State Court System in 2008, he read an article in The Garden about Colesbourne Park in the UK and decided to treat to himself to a trip and fell in love with galanthus. Through his own research and information from the generous galanthus community in the UK, he has learned much which he is eager to share with us. He has gardened on Long Island for 45 years and hopes to do so for another 45 years. (taken from his own words)
