Jan Johnsen is a highly regarded speaker, teacher, landscape designer, principle of Johnsen Landscapes & Pools, and author of several excellent books on garden design. She is known for her deep understanding of the beneficial impact of landscape design on our well being. The presentation is based on her 2019 book of the same name which features more than 130 illustrations of landscapes with accompanying planting suggestions. Jan will share several of her tips to help you enhance your personal garden and see all the possibilities your outdoor space offers. We hope you enjoy the presentation and leave saying "I can do that!". Attendees will receive a list of all the plants mentioned in the presentation. Books will also be available for purchase and can be personally autographed.
We invite guests to join us for this in-person presentation. As there is limited parking and meeting space, we ask guests to preregister. Please send an email to poundridgegardenclub@gmail.com or click on the "contact" tab on at the top of this page. Guests should arrive at 10:00AM in time for coffee and refreshments before the 10:15 start of the presentation. There will be time for questions and the meeting is expected to end by 11:30. Speaker: Adam Wheeler
Adam is the Propagation and Plant Development manager at Broken Arrow Nursery in Hamden, CT. He has worked for Broken Arrow since 2004, has a degree in urban forestry and landscape horticulture. He is a past recipient of the young nursery professional award from the new England nursery Association. He loves to share his passion for plans through photography and educational outreach and is an adjunct lecturer at Naugatuck Valley community college and the Berkshire botanical garden. He also collects rare and unusual plants, loves rock climbing, and growing giant pumpkins competitively. It promises to be a fascinating presentation and the Pound Ridge garden club is fortunate to have him as our May speaker.

Day at the Nursery
Pound Ridge Garden Club's "Day at the Nursery" fundraiser is an annual tradition. Garden Club members will be on hand at the Pound Ridge Nursery & Garden Center to offer assistance to customers. There will also be an opportunity to order bulbs from our annual bulb sale and raffle tickets for a $250 gift certificate to Pound Ridge Nursery & Garden Center. Proceeds help to fund the garden club's civic improvement projects. The drawing will be at 4:00 p.m.

Although the idea of creating a floral design that is only 3-12 inches in height may seem daunting, Pound Ridge Garden Club member and award-winning floral designer, Dee Aspros, will share her expertise and give us tips and insights so that we will all be able to design petite arrangements for our September Flower Show .
Dee is also a past president of the club and a life member of the Federated Garden Clubs of New York State. She is a National Garden Clubs Flower Show Accredited Life Judge and a Federated Garden Clubs of New York State Accredited Horticulture Judge.

Third Annual Decorate your Mailbox Contest
This will be a contest open to residents of Pound Ridge. Decorate your mailbox for the holidays, take a photograph and send it to the club. A drawing for a $50 gift certificate to The Market at Pound Ridge Square will be awarded to one adult entrant and a $50 gift certificate to Booksy Galore will be awarded to a youth entrant. Young children will, of course, be allowed parental help. Prizes will be awarded in January.
