Janet Buckbee
1933-2021
Janet (Jan) Buckbee was an active member of the Pound Ridge Garden Club for 51 years from 1970-2021.
She was elected to a 2-year term as President of the Pound Ridge Club (PRGC) in 1977. Besides the Presidency, Jan served in many other key positions. For her hard work at the PRGC and her work as a Trustee for the Pound Ridge Historical Society, Jan was the recipient of the Club’s “2001 Margery Fay Sach’s Award for Outstanding Service” given for over 30 years of outstanding service and continuous contributions to the community and the Club, the highest honor the PRGC can bestow on an individual. In the 20 years following this prestigious Award, Jan continued to serve in other Garden Club positions.
Having been the President and the Chairperson of so many Committees, Jan had a vast knowledge that she was willing to share with any member, who assumed the Presidency or a Committee Chairmanship. It was always comforting to those of us who had questions that we knew there was a high probability that, if asked, Jan could answer them. She was a mentor to all of us.
Jan loved making floral arrangements and she knew her flowers, having owned her own floral business.
She was generous with her knowledge of Floral Design and Horticulture, not just to the Club but to the Town as well. She supported the Town’s activities that ranged from making the Memorial Day wreaths placed at the Pound Ridge Cemetery and Conant Hall to decorating the 48-inch Balsam Fir wreath that was hung outside the Town House during the holidays.
Jan loved the Garden Club, our flower shows and our activities to support the community. We will miss her greatly.
